RYA COURSES IN MALTA AND OTHER PRACTICAL & THEORY BASED COURSES

We are a professional, friendly, knowledgeable and endlessly patient team. Our Principal, Capt.Michael Gauci and Chief Instructor of Malta Sailing Academy  is a fully qualified RYA Yachtmaster  Sail/Motor, a well know local yachtsman and an expert in all aspects of boat chartering and safety matters.

There are other instructors who are teaching with the Academy Agnieskasuch as Carl Newman, Paul Waters, Phil Palmer, Emma Gauci, Chiara d’Acunto, and Agnieska Schramm-Newth.

Together we can provide the numerous certified RYA courses and just about any other sailing courses in Malta which can be tailor made to fit the needs of you or your company.

All RYA courses are held in English. Our instructors will take great care in assisting you with understanding the tuition if English is your second language.

TM Nautical Licences courses are held in both Maltese and English.

Our fees are genuinely the total cost – there are no hidden or sudden extra charges.

Practical Courses

All practical courses can be taken on our sailing school boats or as ‘own boat tuition’ and have a maximum of 5 students to 1 Instructor, so there is plenty of time and opportunity for the Instructor to attend to your personal needs.

Start Yachting.

Never been on a sailing yacht before? Well this is the place to start – hands on from the off, a great practical introduction to yachting and sailing. This will leave you wanting more.

Competent Crew.

Designed for beginners to cruising, aimed at people who would like to become more active crew members and not just passengers… Yes you do actually get to do lots of steering.

RYA Day Skipper (non-tidal).

This course is for aspiring skippers who have some yachting/sailing experience. Your chance to be safely and skilfully in charge.

Coastal Skipper  (non-tidal).

A more advanced course for those with considerable knowledge looking to skipper yachts for longer passages or perhaps also looking towards taking Certificates of Competency. Your chance to skipper a boat across to Sicily whilst under expert supervision.

RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation.

This is the serious end of sail training. A course designed to prepare you for the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence examination. The ultimate qualification for pleasure yachtsman. This award can also lead to commercial endorsements.

Mile building.

Many of the RYA courses require you to have completed various amounts of logged miles, some with you acting as Skipper or night hours. It may also be that you want to sail and gain experience but do not yet own a boat of your own.Through our sister company Malta Yacht Charters, we offer a range of tidal and non-tidal, mile building sailing programmes. Whether you wish to gain more experience or achieve the required qualifing miles for the more advanced qualifications, you will discover these programmes are not only fun, but rewarding under the watchful eye of our experienced skippers you can assist in planning passages or just act as crew covering journeys to Sicily and beyond

Powerboat Level 1

This course can be taken as a stand alone but is normally integrated with level 2.

Power Boat Level 2

This course provides the skills and knowledge needed to drive a powerboat up to the ICC standard.

 

Shorebased Theory Courses

Basic Navigation and Safety Theory.

It is an introduction to basic navigational techniques, together with safety and seamanship.This is an ideal course for users of small craft. So if you have a RIB, small day boat or a small inshore fishing boat then this course could be for you.

Day Skipper Shorebased Theory.

A course designed for those with some practical yachting experience. It provides information on navigation (both traditional and electronic), good seamanship, meteorology and basic tidal matters are also included. An ideal course to take in conjunction with the practical Day Skipper course.

Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Theory.

A way to build on your existing knowledge of Offshore and Coastal navigation, pilotage, meteorology and seamanship. A must for the budding Yachtmaster.
