Malta Sailing Academy is delighted to provide a whole range of RYA certified practical courses in yacht sailing, and powerboat handling together with certified theory (Shorebased) courses that are suitable for both sail and motor users.

From Start Sailing to the full Yachtmaster® ‘Offshore’ (with commercial endorsements) we offer an extensive range of courses to meet both your level of experience and aspirations. Why not progress your sailing skills whilst working towards achieving recognised certification?

Our boats are based in Manoel Island Marina and our cruising grounds are around the wonderful local waters of Malta , Gozo and Comino. The more advanced courses also include more testing passages to the South of Sicily.

Sailing practical courses take place aboard our  Cyclades 50.5 and Bavaria 36 sailing yachts. Practical sessions for the RYA powerboat courses and Transport Malta nautical licence courses  take place on our Zodiac 5.5 m with a Mariner 115 h outboard engine. These boats are fully equipped, inspected and certified by both the RYA and Transport Malta.

Theory courses are conducted in our comfortable new premises situated in Swatar.

All courses are run by fully qualified RYA Instructors.

We are also able to offer the VHF/DSC Short Range Radio Operators Certificate, which is valid not only in Malta but throughout Europe and beyond. In addition, we have now been certified to conduct ISAF sea survival courses.

In addition to RYA courses, MSA is now a Transport Malta accredited centre able to deliver Nautical Licence training which includes First Aid, Practical and Theory sessions as required before being able to sit the examination.

 

Introduction to the RYA

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) UK has some 2000 affiliated training centres in 20 countries, delivering certificated courses to sailors with differing experiences and needs, from complete beginners to perspective Yachtmasters.

Sail training and powerboating is now available in Malta . All aspects of our training centre – boats, instructors, safety policies and course arrangements – have been throughly inspected and approved by RYA Inspectors.

RYA sailing courses provide certificates that are known and respected worldwide and accepted by maritime authorities, charter operators and insurance companies.
