Yachtmaster™ Offshore Examination
During your Yachtmaster™ Offshore examination, you will be expected to skipper the vessel you are being examined on. You will need to be clear about your plan of action and clearly communicate what you intend to do and how.
You will be in charge of your vessel on the day however your examiner will be with you every step of the way, ensuring that you plan your passages and logistics for the day in the safest possible manner for yourself, your crew and your vessel. You will likely need to present a long passage plan and skipper a shorter one, however we would also like to to be a comfortable as possible during your exam. Do not shy away from making yourself comfortable on board!
You may expect your exam to last between 8 – 12 hours and you will be assigned a crew member prior to starting your exam. You should be aware of the weather forecast and also expect to be given some tidal calculations and close quarters manouvering under sail and motor.
You will be given a range of dates for your examinations and you will then be assigned a final date closer to the exams.
