Day Skipper Practical
This course is for aspiring skippers who have some yachting/sailing experience. Your chance to be safely and skilfully in charge.
Duration:
5 days which can be 2 weekends of 2 days and 3 days.
Previous Knowledge required:
Basic navigation skills and sailing ability with at least 5 days seatime, 100 miles and 4 night hours (To have commenced a Day Skipper Shorebased Theory Course would be required for a novice).
Course Overview:
This is the course where you have the chance to get to grips with basic pilotage, boat handling, seamanship and navigation whilst afloat. It also provides the opportunity to brush up on your sailing skills. Each student will be asked to plan a short passage with the help and guidance of the Instructor and then acting as skipper carry out that plan. Its your chance to be in charge, taking the credit when it all goes well but accepting the blame if it does not. Your Instructor is there at every step with you offering advice and support.
At the completion of the course you will feel a great sense of achievement at having learned many new skills but the most important part is that you will have a new found confidence, which will help you actually enjoy using your boat in the happy knowledge that you and your family are safe onboard.
If at this stage you are not yet a boat owner you will certainly be ready to acquire one, or be of great assistance to friends who are owners.
Certificate Awarded:
RYA Day Skipper certificate (non-tidal).
This is a worldwide valued sailing qualification which will enable you to charter sailing yachts. It could also attract a discount on your boat insurance.
What’s included:
Just about everything you will need. All Instruction, accomodation on board – inc. breakfast and lunch hot and cold drinks, all bedding, life jacket, fuel , mooring fees and RYA G15 logbook.
