Competent Crew
Designed for beginners to cruising, aimed at people who would like to become more active crew members and not just passengers… Yes you do actually get to do lots of steering.
Duration:
5 days or 2 weekends – one weekend of 2 days followed by one of 3 days.
Previous Knowledge required:
None
Course Overview:
The course is about becoming a useful member of the crew rather than remaining an inquisitive passenger. Your Instructor will provide a full safety briefing and be there to ensure you remain comfortable living and working onboard. Once the time comes to get underway it will be virtually all hands on but with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment. Remember yachts cannot sail without crew so without you the sails will not be put up and it will not be steered. In no time at all you will be experiencing working as a team with complete strangers but with the common goal of making the boat sail efficiently and looking in good order.
There will always be new skills to get to grips with like rowing a dinghy, tying knots, understanding the workings of safety equipment like flares, liferafts, lifejackets, harnesses and the recovery of man over board. If that is not enough there is the experience and thrill of doing some night time sailing.
